This past week I went for a few days away in London, mainly to do the touristy bits and explore the capital. I arrived on Tuesday morning and spent the day getting my bearings, visiting Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and bits of Oxford street. Finding our hotel was no mean feat, but the directions did lead us down some quaint back-streets of South Kensington. We stayed in the Imperial College London student accommodation and for the price was a complete bargain. After dropping off our bags in our room and freshening up we went to look around the Science Museum which was pretty interesting - not quite my thing, but I can still say that I've been there. After finishing up there we headed to Westminster on the tube in search of a nice place to eat - we eventually found Pizza Express and had one of the nicest meals. We then headed back to our hotel, stopping in Hyde Park, and then hit the hay; after all that travelling I was dead to the world.
The next day we were up at the crack on dawn (kind of) to go and get some tickets from the TKTS booth in Leicester Square. We caught the tube in to Covent Gardens (not to forget to mention that on I had the tube doors close on me - bruise to prove it too!) and I was completely mesmerised by its beauty - it's just adorable! Leicester Square was also very pretty with lots of greenery and very British looking. In the end we decided we were going to see Wicked (it was amazing, but more on that later). Having got the tickets we were off to Madame Tussauds to adore the wonderful Adele. If I'm honest, I wasn't bowled over - it was far too busy for my liking and the lighting made it near-on impossible to get a good picture with my queen. However, the extra bits and pieces they had there were fun (even if I did get frightened by the scary bit...). Settling back down in Leicester Square we had some sandwiches and went for a mooch around - eventually ending up in Harrods. Wow. I felt like a fish out of water, but was in awe of everything, especially the toy section. My tired legs and feet were then calling for a rest so we made it back to our hotel for a little nap before getting ready to go for dinner and then to the Apollo Theatre in Victoria. Nando's called us in, and then it was time for the show. We saw it with the understudy performing, and she just stole the bloody show - she's from the same town I grew up in and therefore was totally rooting for her. The story was lovely and it was such an experience to say that I'd been and watched a show in the West End.
Now on to our last day. We were up and out fairly early and off to go on the London Eye. It was such a perfect day to go on it - clear and crisp, we could see for miles and miles. We picked some amazing days to go as well so I could just live in t-shirts all the time. We returned to Leicester Square, this time with only one thing in mind - Wagamama's. I'd been wanting to try it for such a long time and was not let down in the slightest - it was heaven on a plate (well, more of a dish). Now came the serious shopping, we headed back to Oxford street and hit it hard. I only got a few tiny bits and bobs, but it was the experience that mattered the most. It was then time to head back to the station, grab something to eat and make our way home. When I finally got in, not shy of midnight, I was so ready to sleep that as soon as my head hit the pillow I was out like a light.
