Purple gradient and glitter nails

I'm just putting out a disclaimer - in no way am I an expert, or even very good at painting my nails. I tend to stick to one colour and that's that. However, I've been wanting to try the sponge gradient nail effect for a while and so thought 'why not?'.

I started with the Rimmel London 60 Seconds Rita Ora nail polish in 'Hot White Love', and just applied two coats of this to provide me with a base to begin my gradient look. Then I poured a small portion of each of the other polishes on to a piece of paper to allow myself to dab the sponge in more efficiently. Taking my small foundation sponge (I just used the cheapest triangular sponges I could find - they sell them in Boots, Superdrug and Primark) and applied two layers of Barry M's 'Berry Ice Cream' and started about a third away from my nail bed. Once this had dried I did the same with Barry M's 'Bright Purple', this time applying it two-thirds away from the nail bed. After allowing it to dry I thought it needed a little more to it and so added a small amount of Barry M's 'Pink Sapphire Glitter' to the darkest colour.

Overall it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. There was a fair amount of polish left around my fingers but it's easily cleaned with water throughout the day, after a shower, or if you want it neatened quicker you can of course use a cotton-bud and some nail polish remover. It's lasted really well on my nails and I've had so many compliments on them!

Let me know if you like this, or if you've tried the gradient effect?
