Pearls of perseverance

I love analogies, I think they can really help us to understand situations that otherwise we may struggle to. At the moment I'm reading a self-help book suggested to me by my GP and on the first page it gave me one of the most insightful and thought-provoking analogies I've heard. It's really opened my eyes as to how you can really change how you think and look at situations in your life.

As we all know, an oyster creates a pearl - one of the most cherished and beautiful creations of nature. Yet, a pearl's life begins as a simple grain of sand that does nothing but irritate the oyster. As a response to the discomfort, the oyster itself creates a smooth and protective coating that both encases the sand and provides relief to the oyster. And as a result, a breath-taking pearl is created. For the oyster. what once was something unbearably uncomfortable provided the seed for something new to begin.

I guess what this is trying to tell is that with every negative experience, pain or discomfort we feel there is always something beautiful to be learned from it. It also shows how we have the potential within ourselves to change and to feel better. So keep going because no matter what, we will always find our own pearl in life, always.
